 2018 Preview 


       Pike County completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region three, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Pike County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Mobile Christian by a score of 21-0.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Pike County ranked 39th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.7 points a game.

       Since 2010, Pike County has gone a combined 49-37. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pike County has managed to compile a record of 198-107. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 3A and 60th in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Fred Holland who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 43-24 over the past six seasons at Pike County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Holland.

       Coach Holland's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 43-24 (64.2%).

       The Pike County Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region two during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 3A but move from region three over to region two. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-47 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 3A and 50th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Alabama Christian on Friday, August 31 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Alabama Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in third place in Class 4A region two. The Eagles lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Andalusia by a score of 45-13.

       Pike County and Alabama Christian have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 5-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2005 with Pike County winning by a score of 62-0.

       Pike County returns 3A All-State  defensive back Rayshawn Reynolds. He was named to the first team last season.
